Construction Mental Health and Wellbeing Summit Recap

CSPP had the privilege of attending the 5th Annual Construction Mental Health and Wellbeing Summit. Those of us doing this work can often feel siloed and isolated. Yet meaningful change requires collaboration. The Construction Mental Health and Wellbeing Summit fosters collaboration and the exchange of ideas on how we can be more innovative in implementing mental health initiatives in the construction industry.

CSPP shared resources and exhibited materials at the conference. We also participated in a breakout session on the Construction CareLine. Lines for Life’s Crisis Lines Director, Chris Nathe, and former Chair of CSPP, Bill Barr, spoke about the creation of the Construction CareLine and what callers can expect when they call the CareLine or 988. One important takeaway is that the CareLine is not just for people in crisis, but also serves as a resource for those who simply need someone to talk to.

A common misconception about 988 is that it is only for people who are thinking about suicide. This myth can prevent individuals from reaching out for support before their situation escalates into a crisis. In reality, people can call 988 or the Construction CareLine if they are concerned about a coworker and need guidance on how to approach the situation, if they are going through a difficult time and need someone to listen, or if they are seeking mental health resources in their area. No matter what someone may be experiencing, support is available.

Last but certainly not least, CSPP is proud to congratulate Judy Cushing for receiving this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award.  Judy Cushing is the founder and former CEO of Lines for Life and has worked tirelessly to promote mental wellness and support the community in reducing suicides.  Even in retirement, Judy has continued to support Lines for Life and CSPP by fostering our growth and expanding our reach.
