Our busiest time of year usually happens around Safety Week in May. However, our busy season actually starts before Safety Week. Here’s what CSPP has been up to leading up to Safety Week:
Holder Construction
CSPP has had the pleasure of speaking at two of Holder Construction’s sites in Oregon. Most of these sites are massive data centers that will eventually be filled with servers—with maybe just two people to maintain them. Holder Construction has been a loyal supporter of CSPP and even gave us a shoutout in their newsletter! Check out some pictures from our time at Holder.

ODOT in the Dalles
In addition, I’ve been traveling all over Oregon for trainings and presentations, and have enjoyed getting to know different companies and sites. Recently, I traveled to The Dalles, where I led a Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) training for ODOT employees. With the new Real ID mandate, many of these workers have been busy helping those who procrastinated in getting the Real ID. Despite that, they were an engaged audience, and the feedback showed that they found the material valuable.
IEC Training Center
I also traveled to Salem and visited the new Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC) Training Facility. Everything was modern and high-end, providing a great environment for students to learn. I presented our overview presentation to more than 200 students, many of whom joined after their workday for evening classes.
Final Thoughts
One of the common patterns we see onsite is how long the workdays or shifts can be. We learned that data center construction requires 12-hour shift rotation, alternating between day and night shifts, to prevent overheating and potential malfunctions or damage. For IEC students, many are working 8–10 hour shifts and then attending school at night.
These long rotating hours can lead to physical and mental fatigue and harm workers’ well-being. While we can’t control workers’ shifts or the length of their days, we can offer tools to help them get enough rest.
Check out our Toolbox Talk and Toolbox Talk Guide for tips on getting adequate rest during long or graveyard shifts.
We are booked for Safety Week, but we know that mental health and safety require a sustained effort, which is why our services are available all year! If you are interested in us doing a presentation or training for your organization, you can email us at csppteam@linesforlife.org
