Safety Week was, as usual, a busy one for CSPP! We not only provided outreach and training for construction companies, but we also launched new resources that will give workers more ways to access support.
For Safety Week, we felt it was important to provide companies with a comprehensive Safety Week packet that allowed workers to access resources without CSPP physically being onsite. Our Safety Week packet includes popular Safety Week toolbox talks, flyers to post around jobsites, and our new mental health assessments. Additionally, we really wanted to emphasize that conversations about mental health and safety should be a year-round commitment. We want companies to be able to refer to the Safety Week packet regardless of the month so they can help workers access the resources they need.
Additionally, we have officially launched our new mental health assessments in partnership with CHESS Health. We now offer five anonymous mental health assessments designed to help workers check in on their mental health, receive immediate feedback, and access CSPP resources. Knowing where to start with mental health and getting help can be a daunting task for many people. Our mental health assessments are meant to break down that barrier and make it as easy as possible for construction workers to access the resources they need based on their results.

Lastly, one of the major highlights of Safety Week was my trip to the new Burbank Airport project. I spoke to about 200 people during the morning stretch-and-flex and walked around the jobsite handing out flyers to workers. One of the biggest takeaways was the number of healthy food choices provided for workers during Safety Week. Healthy smoothie options were available to help fuel workers throughout their day. In construction, it can be tempting to reach for the easiest and quickest snack or meal, often compromising on quality. Providing healthy food options for workers can support not only physical health, but mental health as well. Eating a well-rounded diet with healthy choices can help improve mood, alertness, and focus, all of which impact mental well-being. We aren’t saying that eating well is the key to mental health, but it does contribute to the many different factors that influence overall mental wellness.
